Ranchi, Jharkhand:
Jharkhand’s Director General of Police, Anurag Gupta, conducted a high-impact press conference at the state police headquarters in Ranchi today, addressing crucial concerns regarding internal security, cybercrime, naxal operations, and modern policing efforts in the state.
DGP Gupta’s address focused on the state’s current law and order framework, police modernization, and the implementation of new surveillance technologies to curb criminal activities. His open discussion with the press marked a pivotal step toward building citizen trust and enhancing transparency within the force.
DGP Anurag Gupta began the press briefing by assuring the public that the law and order situation in Jharkhand remains under control. He acknowledged recent sporadic incidents across certain districts but emphasized that rapid response teams have been deployed and patrolling has been intensified.
One of the central themes of the briefing was the rapid increase in cybercrime cases across Jharkhand, particularly targeting youth and senior citizens. The police department, he said, has created a dedicated Cyber Cell in major districts, with ongoing training programs for officers to handle digital forensics, online frauds, and financial scams.
“We are witnessing a shift in crime patterns—from traditional crime to more digitally orchestrated fraud. Our cybercrime units are being upskilled accordingly,” said Anurag Gupta.

To combat the growing threats, DGP Gupta unveiled plans for tech-enabled policing. These include:
Installation of CCTV surveillance grids in urban pockets.
Setting up AI-based facial recognition systems at high-risk zones.
Digitisation of criminal records for faster access and inter-state crime tracking.
He also stressed the need for community policing, urging citizens to report suspicious activities, participate in neighborhood watch programs, and use police helplines in emergencies.
Anurag Gupta gave special attention to women’s safety measures. He mentioned increased police patrolling near colleges and marketplaces and the launch of a Women Helpdesk App, aimed at providing instant support in distress situations.
Furthermore, he announced anti-drug awareness campaigns in schools and colleges, backed by counseling sessions, to engage the youth positively and keep them away from the clutches of crime.
Addressing questions about naxalite activity, the DGP affirmed that security forces are in full control and that several recent joint operations with central forces have yielded positive results, with the arrest or surrender of key figures.
“We are ensuring coordination between local police, CRPF, and intelligence teams for seamless border security operations in sensitive zones,” he stated.
During the Q&A, DGP Gupta responded calmly to questions related to alleged police delays and recent viral videos showing altercations. He acknowledged challenges in remote areas but reiterated the force’s zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, adding that internal inquiries have been initiated where required.
He ended the conference with a strong appeal:
“Let us work together to make Jharkhand safer. The police is for the people, and we are here to serve and protect every citizen.”
The press conference was received positively, with social media users praising the clarity, commitment, and vision laid out by Anurag Gupta. Several civil society groups and student bodies have welcomed the proactive policing measures, especially in areas of cyber awareness and youth engagement.
This initiative by the Jharkhand Police signals a shift towards accountable, digitized, and community-oriented policing, setting a precedent for other states.
